HIGH SCHOOLS – La Salle senior Gitch Hayes set a new Section II all-time best in the boys’ mile Friday night during the Trials of Miles event at Icahn Stadium in New York.

Hayes finished fifth in the race in 4 minutes, 9.04 seconds, beating the previous best of 4:09.17 set by Saratoga Springs’ Dylan Welsh in 1999.

Hayes ran 400-meter splits of 61.6, 61.6, 63.1 and 62.6.

Hayes came back Saturday and won the boys’ 3,200 meters at the Ballston Spa Classic in 9:27.38, winning the race by more than 90 seconds. La Salle also got a victory from Patrick Graham, who won the 400 meters in 57.56 seconds.

Amsterdam’s Garrett McHeard was a dual winner in the shot put (51-7.5) and discus throw (141-6), as was Plattsburgh’s Ethan Mulholland in the long jump (19-10) and triple jump (37-11.5).

Host Ballston Spa won three individual boys’ events with Michael Stamper in the 100 (12.01), Kala’l Makanani in the 200 (24.68) and Isaiah Hannah in the 110 hurdles (15.53). Queensbury also produced three individual winners with Tyler Harrington in the 800 (2:02.60), Jack Hicks in the 1,600 (4:42.77) and Dylan Ball in the javelin throw (130-7). Rounding out the winners were a pair from Shaker — Kyler Alston in the 400 hurdles (57.59) and Edward Xu in the high jump (6-0) — and Bethlehem’s Matti Levasalmi in the pole vault (13-0).

In the girls’ events, Guilderland’s Tatum Cramer won the 100 (13.22) and long jump (16-0), and Rensselaer’s Alana Burden won the discus (102-0) and javelin (98-10).

Guilderland produced three other winners with Willow Novak in the 200 (26.44), Maeghan Hickey in the 100 hurdles (15.64) and Trinity Kenney in the high jump (4-10). Ballston Spa had four individual winners with Anna Zito in the 400 (1:02.52), Madelyn Wilson in the 3,000 (11:30.56), Harriet Healey in the 400 hurdles (1:07.38) and Kate Taylor in the pole vault (7-0).

Rounding up the individual winners were Shenendehowa’s Cate Donaldson in the 800 (2:19.69) and Madison Alheim in the 1,500 (5:11.45), Gloversville’s Zoie Tesi in the triple jump (35-4.5) and Queensbury’s Payton Mehalick in the shot put (31-9).
