9 splash pads in Connecticut for kids to cool off this summer

As Memorial Day weekend rolls around, several Splash pads around Connecticut are turning on their sprinklers, giving kids a chance to cool off 

Splash pads, which are typically located in parks or beaches around the state, are like mini water parks for kids and offer a fun and free alternative to pools and beaches.

According to a previous heat advisory notification from the governor’s office, infants and young children are in the high-risk category during a heat advisory, so it's important to find ways to cool off.

Here are a few splash pads around the state open for the summer.

Beardsley Park Splash Pad is open starting on May 28, according to the park's website.

Residents need to use hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the area but face coverings are not needed. 

Located in downtown Stamford, Scalzi Park offers residents a splash pad, playground and a walking pad. The park is open everyday from 5:30 a.m. 12 a.m.

Villano Park's splash pad is located between the playground and the basketball court. There is also a covered area for parents. 

Indian Ledge State Park's sprinklers are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Memorial Day to the middle of September.

Rogers Park's splash pad is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the summer season. You can find another splash park in Danbury at Lake Kenosia Park.

Southwestern Connecticut is under an excessive heat wave this weekend, with health officials warning residents to stay inside and stay cool as temperatures get close to 100 degrees.

Calf Pasture Beach's splash pad is located in between Calf Pasture Beach and Sandy Beach. Parking fees are in effect at the beach from May 15 to Oct. 15 every year.

Wolcott Park and Splash Pad is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can find other splash pads in West Hartford in Beachland park, Fern park and Kennedy park.

Scantlebury Park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can find other splash pads in New Haven at Ann Street Playground, Dover Beach and Edgewood Park. 

Longbrook Park is located in Northern Stratford. The fenced splash pad includes a frog and pelican sprinklers. The park is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
