An arrest has been made for the death of a woman in Altamonte Springs.

Investigators said they found the victim Tuesday during a wellness check on Ballard Street.

First responders rushed to the Goldelm and Charter Pointe Apartments a little before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

"I know that she was in her early 20's. She was a young female and still had a whole life ahead of her," Michelle Montalvo of the Altamonte Springs Police Department said about the victim.

Police said right away they were working a homicide Tuesday morning.

Xichen Yang, 21, is facing a first-degree murder charge along with a charge of tampering with evidence, according to the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

Yang was first taken into custody as a person of interest Tuesday, police say.

"We have a victim who is deceased. As with any death, we're investigating this as a homicide," Montalvo said.

By mid-evening, Yang was arrested for the death of his wife, Nhu Quynh Pham.

According to the police report, Yang confessed to murdering Pham.

He was reportedly upset with Pham for burning his passport.

Police say he confessed to cutting Pham's throat with a knife, placing her in a bathtub and playing her favorite music for about ten minutes while she died. He also said he held her hand and never called an ambulance.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Pham in the bathtub in blood.

After Pham died, Yang reportedly cleaned up the blood.

During an interview with police, Yang claimed as he became more angry, he could've stopped but that's "not how he was raised" and he's a person who "goes all the way."

A witness reported Yang not showing up to work, which led to him calling Yang, who claimed he'd done "unspeakable" things and told the witness he'd killed Pham.

The witness told police Yang also said he'd used a knife on Pham's throat.

The report says Yang admitted over the phone in the initial call that he was "attempting to clean up the evidence".

Yang was set to appear before a judge Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records, but the court appearance at the Seminole County Jail was delayed a day.

Police told WESH 2 he will be brought to jail once he's been cleared medically.

His booking information indicates he's hospitalized.

No injuries to him were mentioned in the arrest report.
